You can dive year-round in Bunaken Island and Manado if you are on the good condition of boats. All our boats are large, with double engines and they also have a good maintenance, so they are ready to handle the year-round diving conditions in Bunaken Island and Manado. According to the various guide/dive books, the dry and wet seasons are:

Dry season is from April to October when the wind blows from south-east and the sea stays relatively calm. Visibility is normally 25m and can sometimes get as good as 30m+ on some days.

Wet season is from November to March with cooler winds from north-west which can bring heavier rains and rougher seas. Visibility is about 15-20m but can sometimes drop to 10m for a few days. If you're coming to visit the rainforest, we actually prefer the rainy season (but again it is year-round) because that is when the forest and highlands are watered and are at their most lush.

Under Water Protection:
Not too much thermal protection is required, however we suggest a 3mm or 5mm one-piece (or dive-skin for those who don't get easily chilled) - make sure it's full arms and legs, to protect against any stinging hydroids.

Surface Protection:
Sun lotion and sun glasses for the day time.

Clothing:
It's normally shorts and T-shirt by day (even if it rains) and at night in town the dress code is casual, nothing more than light trousers or jeans and a golf shirt is required. There is no need whatsoever for a sweatshirt.
